Justin Schlecht enters his 3rd year as Head Wrestling Coach at DSU. Prior to being the Head wrestling coach at DSU Schlecht was the Assistant under Coach Thadd O’Donnell, for 4 seasons/years.  He was also the Head wrestling coach and a teacher at Belle Fourche School District in South Dakota for 4 years, prior to his assistant coaching duties starting at DSU.

In his first year as Head Coach, Schlecht had 4 individuals earn All-American Status at the 2016 NAIA National Tournament.  He also had his first Top Ten Team finish as Head Coach with the Team finishing 8th in the Nation.  In the 2015 season Coach Schlecht and DSU wrestling also had 2 NWCA All-Academic Team Members, Seth Ehlang and Taylor Hodel.

As a member of the DSU wrestling team Schlecht became one of the most decorated athletes ever to attend the school. Schlecht recorded three national championships and one third place finish as a Hawk. Schlecht attended DSU from 2002-2003 before deploying for an 18 month tour of duty in Iraq. Schlecht followed his stint in the Army National Guard with an extremely successful return to the program from 2004-2008. In both 2007 and 2008 Schlecht was recognized as the NWCA Wrestler of the Year. In 2007 Schlecht was also voted as the Outstanding Wrestler of the NAIA National Tournament. Schlecht holds or shares six Dickinson State school wrestling records.

The Whitewood, S.D. native finished his career with 69 pins and a 140-22 overall record. He was 17-1 in four national tournament appearances with 13 pins. Coach Schlecht has coached 12 National Qualifiers, and 4 NAIA All-Americans in his first 2 NAIA Seasons.

Justin is married to Meagan Schlecht, who also holds a bachelor degree from DSU, and has also earned her Master’s degree .  They have 2 daughters Katy (7), Sophy (5), and 1 son Elijah (1).  The family of 5 are huge BlueHawk Wrestling Fans!
