BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Lady Blue Hawks made it five out of six on the season so far, winning the rodeo with 480 team points to Black Hills State’s 320.
Senior Bobbi Grann led the way once again using strong performances in the barrel racing and goat tying to capture her fifth all-around cowgirl title of the season. Grann won the long go in the goats with the fast time of the weekend (6.6). Her 7.4 in the short tied her for second in the average with teammate Sadie Gjermundson.
Consistency paid off for Gjermundson, wrapping up her two goats and 6.9 and 7.1 seconds to split second in both rounds as well as the average.
In the barrel racing, Grann placed fourth in the long round with a 13.29 and quickened the pace to a 13.14 in her second run to split the win in the round and take third in the average.
Michaela Kathrein came back seventh in the barrels with a 13.37 and also improved in the short go to a 13.21 which put her fifth in both the round and the average.
Teddi Schwagler was second in the long round of the team roping. Heading for Black Hills State’s Katie Doll, they had a clean run of 11.6. The duo held on for sixth in the average as well.
Skye Schaper picked up points in the long round of the breakaway, splitting fourth with run of 2.9 seconds.
The Blue Hawks will head southeast again this weekend to Lincoln, Neb. for the Cornhusker Stampede April 17-18.
