DICKINSON, ND- (Complete Results) Neither the men’s nor women’s team were able to take the team title at their home rodeo. However, the Lady Blue Hawks still ran away with the Great Plains Region Women’s Team Championship amassing 3,743 points, an astounding 1,350 points in front of Black Hills State’s Lady Yellow Jackets.
DSU dominated the goat tying in the long round. All five Blue Hawk goat tyers qualified for the short go, making up half the field. Bobbi Grann had the regional goat tying title sewed up before the rodeo even started, but added additional points by splitting the win in the long round with an 8.6. Grann was long in the short go, however, with an 11.1 well out of placing. Younger sister Lacey was the best of the Lady Hawks in the short round with an 8.5 splitting fourth in the round and third in the average.
Teddi Schwagler picked up third place in the long round with an 8.7 but took a no time in the short go. Her 440 points on the season landed her in fourth place, twenty points ahead of teammate Sadie Gjermundson who picked up fifteen points in the long round of the Blue Hawk Stampede. Both qualified for the CNFR in the goat tying. Skye Schaper rounded out the point scorers for DSU placing sixth in both the short go and the average of the goat tying. Schaper also split fifth and sixth in the long round of the breakaway roping with a 4.4 second run, but couldn’t connect in the short go. Schaper finished sixth in the region in breakaway roping and will compete in that event at nationals.
Bobbi Grann was the regional all-around cowgirl champion for the third time in her four year career. Grann will compete at nationals in goat tying and barrel racing having finished third in the barrel racing standings for the season.
