Spearfish, S.D. – Both the men’s and women’s teams placed second at the Yellow Jacket Stampede. The women scored 320 team points compared to the host Yellow Jackets who had 440.
Bobbi Grann won her third straight average title in the goat tying and locked up the season championship in that event, a welcome accomplishment after finishing as the runner up the past three years. Grann was consistent as usual with identical runs of 7.0 for second in the long round and first in the short.
Teddi Schwagler was also consistent, tying a 7.2 in the long go and 7.3 in the short go. She was fourth in both rounds and third in the average.
Skye Schaper picked up 40 points for third in the long round of the breakaway roping with a 3.6 second run but came up empty in the short go. Schaper also saw the short go in the barrel racing, with a 14.37 but a tipped first barrel proved costly on her second run, which would have been one of only four sub fourteen second runs of the rodeo.
Downed barrels also plagued Lady Hawks Teddi Schwagler and Cassie Kohlnhofer in the short go. Kohlnhofer’s 14.31 in the long round was good enough for fourth, but it was Michaela Kathrein who shone in the short go, getting around the cans in a clean 14.11 to place third in the round and fourth in the average paired with her 14.54 from the long round.
The Blue Hawks travel to Hastings, Neb. May 1-2 for their last road trip before hosting the season finale rodeo at home.
