Paitton Herbst and Abby Honeyman Earn Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

MADISON, S.D. – Dickinson State (N.D.) swept the final edition of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Players-of-the-Week honors, announced by the conference office Monday.  Paitton Herbst was named to Field Athlete-of-the-Week, while Abby Honeyman was named to Track Athlete-of-the-Week from the NSAA conference meet last week in Dickinson, N.D.

Paitton Herbst – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Freshman – Baker, Mont. – Herbst won the heptathlon at the North Star Athletic Association with a national qualifying points for Dickinson State (N.D.).  She earned 3,948 points to claim the title, earning first-places in the 800-meter run (2:25.72), long jump (4.61 meters), and javelin throw (39.24 meters).  She was second in the 200-meter run (27.03 meters), 100-meter hurdles (18.12 seconds), high jump (1.43 meters) and shot put (7.43 meters).  Herbst also clocked a time of 2:26.50 to win the 800-meters title.  She was runner-up in the 1500-meter run in 5:10.84 and anchored the Blue Hawks' 4 x 400-meter relay time for a second-place finish in 4:14.06.  Herbst was named NSAA Women's Track & Field Most Valuable Performer in the meet, guiding Dickinson State to their first-ever NSAA Women's Outdoor Track & Field Conference team title with 157.50 points. 

North Star Athletic Association Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Abby Honeyman – Dickinson State (N.D.) – Freshman – Regent, N.D. – Honeyman earned three titles in helping Dickinson State win their first-ever NSAA Women's Outdoor Track & Field team title with 157.50 points.  She captured the 100-meter hurdles in a national qualifying time of 14.79 seconds.  She was also a member of the Blue Hawks' 4 x 100-meter relay team with won the event, clocking a time of 48.77 seconds.  Honeyman captured first in the long jump, leaping a jump measurement of 5.19 meters.  She collected a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.64 seconds and 200-meters in 25.98 meters.  Honeyman was named the NSAA Women's Outdoor Track Most Valuable Performer in the meet.

Dickinson State (N.D.) won the women's team title in the North Star Athletic Association Women's Outdoor Track & Field conference meet on May 8.  The Blue Hawks scored a total of 157.50 points to claim the team title.  Jamestown (N.D.) was second with 129.50 points.  Valley City State (N.D.) edged out Dakota State (S.D.) 25-24 for third place in the conference meet.

Postseason awards were handed out after the conclusion of the conference meet, all by Dickinson State.  Abby Honeyman was named to NSAA track Most Valuable Performer while Whitney Leuenberger earned NSAA Field Most Valuable Performer.  Paitton Herbst was the overall meet Most Valuable Performer.  Jace Schillinger was selected as the Coach-of-the-Year honor.

Looking Ahead
The 35th Annual NAIA Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will be held on May 21-23.  The national meet will be held at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.
