Great Falls, MT – Dickinson State University ended their 2013 season with a loss against the University of Montana Western in the Frontier Conference tournament play in game.  The final set scores were: 25-20, 27-25, 25-13.

The Blue Hawks kept the match close in the first two sets, including forcing set two into extra points, but could not overcome Western.

Montana Western's Emily Erickson led with 16 kills, while Breanne Kelly finished with 13.  Rachelle Chamberlin recorded 42 assists. Western finished with 48 kills and assists, 58 digs, and a hitting percentage of .363.

The Blue Hawks were led by senior outside hitter Melissa Avila, who finished with 11 kills.  Freshman Aly Schieno continued her late season success, as she added 10 kills and finished the match with a hitting percentage of .471.  Senior setter Kelly O'Connor picked up 28 assists.  O'Connor also led the team in digs with 11.

Avila finished the season ranked third in the conference with kills per set (3.8), fourth in kills (353), and fifteenth overall in hitting percentage (.159).  She also accumulated the most attack attempts in the Frontier Conference with 1,249.

"Tonight was tough.  We gave ourselves a chance to win early but just couldnt find a way to win the first or second set," head coach Jon Stenman said.  "We battled, but Western was really clicking offensively. We did some good things but ultimately they were the better team tonight.  If we could have got one of those first two sets I think we could have prevailed, but it wasn't to be. I'm proud of their effort. We did what we could to give ourselves a chance and it hurts when you don't get the result you want."
