The Dickinson State University Blue Hawks took back to the court on Saturday, October 12, to play host to the Montana Tech Orediggers. The Orediggers took the match 3-0, with set scores of: 25-18, 25-19, 25-23. The Orediggers are now 14-7 overall and 4-4 in Frontier Conference play. The Blue Hawks fall to 2-17, with a record of 0-8 in Frontier Conference matchups.
Montana Tech sophomore Sydney Norris and junior Korey Krumm tied for the team lead in kills with nine each. Freshman Haley Druyvestein added eight kills of her own. The Orediggers tallied 41 kills in the entire match. Setters Mackenzie Bauck (freshman) and Alison Lunde (sophomore) combined for 33 assists. Bauck led the way with 18 and Lunde tallied 14 of her own. Sophomore libero Kimmy Kavran tallying 16 blocks for the Orediggers.
Senior Mellisa Avila led the Blue Hawks in kills for the second straight home match, as she tallied 11 against Montana Tech. As a unit, the Blue Hawks tallied 29 kills. Senior Kelly O'Connor recorded three kills, a team high 23 assists, eight digs, and three block assists. Sophomore Meghan Meyerhad two service aces for the Blue Hawks. Freshman Magdalyn Rauser tacked on four kills of her own. Junior libero Natasha Malana recored a team high 20 digs. Overall, the Blue Hawks had 51 digs and seven total blocks.
The Blue Hawks will be on the road for their next match against Valley City on Tuesday, October 15. That match is scheduled for 6:00 PM. The next home match for Dickinson State University will be Thursday, October 17, as they take on Westminster at 7:00 PM.
