DICKINSON, N.D. – Dickinson State University Head Volleyball Coach Jon Stenman is pleased to announce Shelby Gustafson has signed a letter of intent to play for the Blue Hawks in 2014-15.
Gustafson hails from West Fargo, N.D. where she attends West Fargo High School. She is a tri-sport athlete and competes in volleyball, basketball, and track. A three-year volleyball letter winner, Gustafson was named team captain in 2013. She also earned team MVP honors and was named to both the All-EDC and All-State teams in 2013.
"I am extremely pleased to be adding Shelby to the fold next season," Stenman said. "She is from an established, very competitive volleyball program at West Fargo. Her presence alone boosts our fingerprint on the eastern part of the state. Shelby is the type of athlete that makes dynamic movements seem effortless. She will be an immediate contributor on the front line and it would not surprise me to see her become a six-rotation player sooner rather than later."
Gustafson was named a team captain for both basketball and track in 2013-14. In basketball she was a three-year letter winner. She helped guide West Fargo to an EDC Championship in 2012. She also helped guide the track team to a championship in 2013. Gustafson was a five-year letter winner in track and a four-time state qualifier.
Gustafson has been awarded a Theodore Roosevelt Honors Scholarship by Dickinson State and she plans to major in occupational therapy.
She is the daughter of Todd and Carlene Gustafson.
