MITCHELL, S.D. – The Blue Hawks take on their first road trip of the season as they head out to the Corn Palace Invite in Mitchell, S.D.
Dickinson State will open the tournament against Johnson and Wales-Denver. The Blue Hawks did not play the NCAA Division II Johnson and Wales-Denver last season.
At 3 p.m. the Blue Hawks will take on Dakota State University in a non-conference match. The match will be the first test against a conference opponent this season.
Last season, the Blue Hawks split eight matches with opponents from the North Star with a final record of 4-4.
The season opener did not go as the Blue Hawks planned, as they fell in four to Dakota Wesleyan. The Blue Hawks will get an opportunity to return the favor on Saturday (Aug. 30) when the play the Tigers at 10 a.m. During the first match the Tigers rolled in the first set (25-16), before picking up a tough second set (29-27). Dickinson State found a groove in the third set, taking it 25-17. Dakota Wesleyan was able to take the fourth set, 25-0, and the match. Maddi Johnston, Tessa Sian, and Shelby Gustafson each had nine kills. Brenna Hansen recorded seven.
Dickinson State's final match of the Corn Palace Invite will be against Valley City State. The Blue Hawks were 2-0 last season against the Vikings with a 3-1 victory at Valley City and a 3-0 sweep in Scott Gym. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Blue Hawks next home match will be on Wednesday (Sep. 3) when they host Minot State at 7 p.m.
