Corn Palace Invite: Day 2 Recap

MITCHELL, S.D. – After falling in both matches on Friday (Aug. 29) the Blue Hawks looked to right the ship on Saturday (Aug. 30).  Unfortunately, both Valley City State and Dakota Wesleyan were able to best Dickinson State.  The Blue Hawks fell in three both matches.  Dickinson State is now 0-5 on the season.

In the opening match against Dakota Wesleyan, the Blue Hawks were looking to exact a bit of revenge on the Tigers after dropping the season opener a week ago.  The Tigers swept the Blue Hawks with scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-14.  Maddi Johnston once again led the Blue Hawks' offense.  She recorded nine kills.  Miranda Kadrmas picked up six, while Shelby Gustafson put up five kills.  Morgan Lutz had 21 assists.  Natasha Malana recorded 24 digs, a team high.  The Blue Hawks finished the first match with 30 kills, 28 assists, and 51 digs.

The Blue Hawks faced conference opponent Valley City State in a non-conference match to close out the Corn Palace Invite.  The Vikings took the match in three sets, but the Blue Hawks did force extra points in the second set.  Valley City took the sets by scores of 25-15, 26-24, and 25-14.  Hansen and Kadrmas each recorded seven kills.  Ashleigh Aufforth led the Blue Hawks with nine assists.  Malana recorded 14 digs.

The Blue Hawks will be back on the court Wednesday (Sep. 3) against Minot State in Scott Gym.  The match is scheduled for 6 p.m.
