DICKINSON, N.D. – The Blue Hawks open conference play on Friday (Sept. 19) against Mayville State University and will then host Valley City State on Saturday. Dickinson State will round the weekend out by hosting Briercrest College on Sunday afternoon in matinee action.
Mayville State is 6-7 on the season and is currently riding a four game winning streak. The Comets were in Omaha, Neb. last week and picked up four wins against York College, Bethany College, Harris Stowe State University, and Avila University. The Comets swept each opponent, 3-0. Prior to the tournament, Mayville State struggled to find consistency. In their last 10 matches, the Comets are 5-5. Josette Glatt leads Mayville with 128 kills. She averages 2.98 kills per set.
Valley City State is 7-10 on the season and have won their last three matches. The Vikings also played in Omaha, Neb. last week and finished the tournament with a 3-1 record. The final two matches of the tournament, against York College and Southwestern College, went to four sets. The Vikings are 6-4 in their last 10 matches. The Blue Hawks have faced the Vikings once this season in a non-conference match at the Corn Palace Invite. In that match, Brenna Hansen and Miranda Kadrmas each notched seven kills. Valley City won the match in three sets.
The Blue Hawks will finish the weekend against Briercrest College. Briercrest is 2-2 on the season, with victories against Keyano College and Concordia University of Alberta. The Clippers will play at Willison State on Friday, before heading to Lake Region State on Saturday.
Dickinson State is coming off a ten day break after the Big Sky Challenge. Maddi Johnston leads the Blue Hawks with 70 kills, while Kadrmas follows closely behind at 65. Tessa Sian has recorded 56 kills of her own. Morgan Lutz has dished out 169 assists on the season, while Ashleigh Aufforth has picked up 89. Natasha Malana has picked up 169 digs, a team high. Shelby Gustafson leads the Blue Hawks with nine service aces.
Dickinson State will play Mayville at 7 p.m. on Friday. The match on Saturday, against Valley City State, is scheduled for 6 p.m. The match against Briercrest on Sunday will start at 1:30 p.m.
