DICKINSON, ND- Blue Hawk Volleyball volunteers for the Dickinson BackPack Program.
The Dickinson BackPack Program is designed to help stop childhood hunger by providing food packs for children to take home over the weekend. Almost 100 students in the area are signed up for the program, and more are accepted to join for the 2016-17 school year.
“We just wanted to find a way to give back to the community, and what better way to do that than to help a child in need? This program is a blessing to the town of Dickinson, and we feel very privileged that we could be a small part of it,” stated head coach Jennifer Hartman.
Each pack provides a child with nonperishable items, easy-to-make foods, and even fresh fruits like apples and bananas. The BackPack Program wanted to ensure that children were provided with nutritional foods, and not just ‘junk foods.’ After the ‘packs’ are packed, they are delivered to each child at the appropriate school. As of now, each public school in Dickinson is involved in the program.
Sr. Outside Hitter, Brenna Hansen has been involved in the BackPack Program for the past three years. Hansen stated, “I believe this incredible program has brought much support and a very positive environment through our education system. It feels great to be able to give back to the youth in our community.”
