BUTTE, Mont. – The third annual Big Sky Volleyball Challenge sponsored by Advantage Butte is this Friday and Saturday August 26-27 and features some big changes than the previous years. The two-day tournament is at the Civic Center in Butte for the first time and features three courts running simultaneously.
The last two years, the tournament took place at the HPER Complex on Montana Tech's campus and the PE Center in Helena at Carroll College's campus. This year all 14 teams play in the same location and features the most college volleyball under one roof ever in the Mining City.
Teams arrive this week from all five Montana Frontier Conference schools as well as numerous states including North Dakota, Nebraska, Oregon, California, Idaho and Washington. The list of teams includes five schools ranked in the 2016 Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll. The first matches start at 10 a.m. on Friday with the final match slated for 7 p.m. that night. Saturday gets underway at 9 a.m. and the last match starting at about 5 p.m.
The Orediggers face No. 9 Vanguard at noon and Dickinson State at 7 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, Tech plays No. 11 College of Idaho at 11 a.m. and Corban (Ore.) at 3 p.m.
