The Dickinson State Men's and Women's Cross Country runners are learning to give back to the running community. During September they helped with three local cross country meets. The first meet was the Becki Wells Invitational hosted by Dickinson High School. That meet included varsity, junior varsity, middle school and elementary races. The last two races were held by the Dickinson Parks and Recreation at Patterson Lake and were all K-6th grade aged children.
"I think it's very valuable for our athletes to see the amount of work put into these races. It helps our runners appreciate the workers at our collegiate contests" said Head Coach Mike Nekuda. The Hawks had a great time seeing younger athletes enthused about the sport of running. "The number one reason we do this is to promote the sport of running in our youth today. This is a great sport and can teach you so many life skills. If we can get a few kids hooked on running we accomplished our goal" state Nekuda.
The Blue Hawk cross country teams will be back in action next Saturday, October 12th at Montana State-Billings.
